積層した金属を叩き延ばす過程で生まれる “うねる様な模様” を杢目金（もくめがね）と言います。 この独特な模様に魅了され、杢目金の可能性を模索し、金属の重ね方や、彫り込みに差異をつけることで意図的に色味の差を出すという独自の手法を生み出した佐故龍平。この手法により彼の杢目金は、他にはないより豊かな表情を生み出しています。

The undulating pattern created in the process of beating and stretching laminated metal is called Mokumegane. Fascinated by this unique pattern, Ryuhei Sako explored the possibilities it offers and developed his own method of deliberately creating differences in coloration by changing the way of stacking and carving the metal. With this method, his Mokumegane works have one-of-a-kind rich expressions.

杢目金

約400年前、江戸時代に生まれた日本独自の特殊な金属加工技術である「杢目金（もくめがね）」。数十枚の色の異なる金属板を接合し、彫っては打ち延べる工程を繰り返すことで、独特の杢目状の文様が浮かび上がる。
銀や銅、そして赤銅、四分一などの日本古来の合金を駆使し、幾重にも重なる金属の層から独自の景色を作り出す。

Mokume-gane

Mokume-gane is a unique Japanese metalworking technique that developed during the Edo period around 400 years ago. Dozens of differently coloured metal sheets are joined together and, through the process of repeated chiseling and hammering, the characteristic wood grain pattern emerges.
The unique surface image arises from the multilayering of metals such as silver and copper and through the use of ancient Japanese alloys such as shakudo and shibuichi.
